Meditation and Sleep

Did you know meditation can help you sleep better?

In 2020, research was conducted to determine the efficacy of a mind-body medicine intervention to promote sleep quality in older adults.

The study consisted of 49 middle-aged participants, who were divided into two groups. One group was taught mediation and other exercises to help them focus on moment-by-moment experiences and the other group completed a sleep education class that taught them ways to improve sleep.

Over the course of the study, the people in the mindfulness group that consisted of mediation and other exercises to improve focus suffered less fatigue, insomnia and depression.

According to one of the researchers, Dr. Herbert Benson, mindfulness mediation can evoke the relaxation response, which can ease maladies brought on by stress, including depression and high blood pressure. Stress, has been identified as a key trait in people suffering from sleep disorder.

So, if you feel like you're not getting the amount of quality sleep you need to be your most productive self, consider mindful meditation.
